Sorry, but I disagree with most of the responses to this question, since they don't actually address it. He didn't ask, "Should I come out to my parents?" but rather how should he tell them he's bi. If he had/has the impulse to tell them, then why squash it? Unlike some (most?) people, he may prefer to be open with family and friends before pursuing anything. That was the case for me. I didn't want to skulk around and hide something about myself, since I knew it would make me feel worse to do so.
So, I would suggest he do what I did. I sat down with close family members one at a time and told them. I simply phrased it by saying, "I'm not straight...but I'm not gay either," and the conversation flowed from there. The responses I encountered varied from supportive to shock to disappointment, but no one abandoned me--and I felt better for telling them. And, eventually, all of them came around (it helps that I have a great family).
Contrary to the other replies, which I'm sure can be just as valid for some, I recommend you tell, rather than expect your parents (mother) to guess things about you based on your behavior. That puts the burden on them to broach the subject, which isn't fair to them--and takes control from you. I also advocate honesty for another reason (in addition to honesty itself, of course): because I wish bi people (men, especially) were as open as our gay counterparts. Otherwise, we'll continue to be an invisible minority.

But those guys are the people I trust the most.
They'll find out one day, and they will either deal with it or not.
But im not waiting around for them to come to terms with MY sexuality, to discover who I am.
Im going to find that out in my own sweet time.
