Things like that just didn't happen. I also work at a summer camp and the news of what happen at a camp near by this September was horrible. It involved a high school football team from New York. It makes you wonder how adults in charge of the welfare of children can allow bad things to happen. My hopes and wishes are for William to make a complete recovery. And Pat about the school saying to stop mothering the students. I have to say that the "lunch ladies" at my school where the greatest. thank you tom & denise for your kind words. the thing that angers me so much about this situation is the school knew this fight was going to take place but did nothing to stop it. at least one if not more teachers reported it to the guidance office & the main office. although i am sure they did not know the severity of the injuries william would suffer they still chose not to intervene. also there was a meeting at the school on friday with all the other students who witnessed the fight accompanied by their parents. william's grandmother was there as well. the school administration told the people at the meeting that it was not to be discussed any further by anyone. they are trying to sweep this under the rug as if it never happened. i am appalled & embarassed to be an employee of such a dispicable organization & when i see my way clear will no longer be an employee there. i do love my job & being around my 1200 "kids" but this just turns my stomach as to how the school district can pass this off as if it were nothing. maybe that's what's wrong with the youth of today or at least the youths in my school district. i have seen many many times how the children at my school are treated. they are treated with no respect & like criminals. i have yet to see any employee of the school other than us "lunch ladies" treat these children kindly. there was an incident a couple weeks ago in the cafeteria & all us "lunch ladies" supported the students & their complaints. we were told by the principal that we are employees of the school & to stop being "moms" to the students. so how can we blame the children for their behavoir when we have people like this in a public school system. when the adults don't care....how can we expect the children to care? and now a young man may lose his life over something that could have been avoided if a so-called "adult" would have taken just a few seconds to care about & stop.
