Hi High...I think you may have just answered a question that I have had for a long time. That is: Why is it so difficult to meet local members?
Your concern is understandable, but may be unfounded. If you were to meet up with a local member, you could tell him your predicament, and agree that if you saw each other in public, you could handle it in various ways. You could simply ignore each other (not my preference, but I would respect someones wishes), you could agree to greet each other, but if anyone around you asked, you could say you know each other from somewhere else (my personal favorite is introducing the member as someone I recently met at a bike event).
Guess I should consider myself fortunate in that I have come out to my wife, and only need be careful about the kids finding out (one of my wife's requests, that I don't tell the kids).
Good luck on your get together. Don't let the worry distract from the meet up. Your first time will probably be your most memorable, and you may not want to wreck it by worrying. Have fun....
