The short answer is: NO. If you are attracted to both sexes, you're bisexual - period. However, the "homosexual" attraction of being Bi is, obviously, stigmatized as "gay" to discourage bisexuals from entertaining it due to the continued entrenched homophobia in our culture. This is why it's not unheard of for a person calling themselves bisexual (or even straight), coming out as "gay" at some point in their lives when they've just come to terms with themselves and society's homophobia. It's a sad state of affairs, to be sure, and I'm really sorry you went through that. :(
