The key thing here is that the “they” who make up all the holidays and observations are a lot of different people. Compared to all of the random days and weeks and months to recognize various people, things and ideas, there are relatively few actual “bank holidays” where people get a day off.

I just wanted to post something about losing family members at the holidays.

I do not know how people do it when they lose a family member around the holidays. We got a call this morning from Ivy's Mom she was calling from work to let Ivy know that her cousin was just killed in a car accident at 3.09am this morning. It appears from the report that he was alone and was driving down the road and lost control of the car and went down into the embank me and flew 80 ft onto the highway by the road and was then hit by a semi truck and was killed. He was thrown free from the truck after the semi impact, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Not to say that losing someone around the holidays, but to be a police officer and get to the scene of the accident and to find out it is a family member has to be even worse. Ivy's Uncle is a town cop where the accident happened and was called to the scene and then to start the investigation and run the license plate to find out it is his Nephew.

I have to say to my wife I am very sorry for her loss and I just do not know what else to say. I will be here to comfort her, but what can someone really do.

I also want to extend my condolence's to everyone that has lost family around the holidays and to say I now can feel your pain and sorrows. I did not really know her cousin but he is still part of my family and it does hurt alot, because I was just starting to get to know him and now I will never have that chance
