I think that if the kids are raised in a nudist environment (whether only in the home or including nudist gatherings) it shouldn't be a problem. As with every other aspect of raising children, the parents must take care to explain the realities: that there is a time & place for it, for example, that some people might not understand, & other considerations. This would have to include inviting the kids' friends over for visits. It might confuse the kids & make them feel that they have to hide the reality; sadly, if not carefully explained, it might make the kids feel that the family's clothing-optional choice is somehow "wrong."
Although not nudists, my wife & I are somewhat relaxed, & the wife's (now-grown) kids know that. We never made a point of being naked around them if it made them uncomfortable. They understood that we might be partially or completely nude on the deck in the afternoon in the sun, but we were willing to cover ourselves if it would make them or others uncomfortable (it must be remembered that nudity in front of minors can be construed as a crime in some places).
When we got together, her daughter would only sunbathe in a bathing suit when nobody was around (a result of abuse by her father); now, at 22, she is not a nudist, but has a rather relaxed attitude about clothing or the lack of it. Her younger brother was somewhat more reserved, but is now a Marine, so he's getting used to being naked in front of others--not much choice there, no more than I had in the Navy! I'd like to think our attitude had something to do with her changing outlook. We never pushed our viewpoint on her & always adjusted to make both kids comfortable. Idealism aside, it's about the kids. In a perfect world, everyone would be comfortable, but adjustments must be made for the sensibilities of others, especially the young. It must have worked--a couple of years ago, when my stepdaughter got her nipples pierced, she couldn't wait to show us her rings, but it was completely innocent; she just wanted to show off her jewelry! I was proud of her progress from being shy & somewhat ashamed of her body when younger to a healthier-minded young woman.

In our country, showing off one's plumbing fixtures en famille was practiced by the Vermont preacher John Humphrey Noyes and his followers in the Oneida Community, which was located in the so-called "burnt over district" of upstate NY. Noyes & his followers also followed a custom called "complex marriage," whereby most members of the Community were related to each thru matrimony. And far as teaching the yung'uns 'bout the birds & bees goes, Oneida womenfolk showed the lads thru hands-on demonstrations how to pleasure the ladies, while the menfolk initiated the lasses in what to do, within prudent bounds of course. Expectedly, civic authorities & mobs of outraged, church-goin' citizens put the kybosh on Oneida, which wound up being better known for its silverware than for its wingnut social doctrines.

Anyhow, I'm all for family nudity, if for no other reason than 'cuz it lays bare--pun intended--our humanity. Apopos of the birds-'n-bees biz goes, let's face it, our muddled mores have managed to do nothing more than to FUBAR generation after generation of our youth. The Oneidans had a far more reasonable and effective way to help children come to grips with sexuality. When you have children and your out in public and have perverted men looking at your 11 year old daughter it is an issue. My kids are very well adjusted (with themselves and their bodies... they don't need to be naked to prove that) and just because I don't agree with it doesn't mean I put anyone else down for it so don't put me down because I have a different belief. In Scotland, it's pretty much the same as the US. As for my attitude to it. If it were not for the tabloid press, I'd be more for it. almost raised that way myself. Parents trying to be trendy in the sixties... But following many tales in the press about sexual abuse, we didn't raise our daughter that way.
So to answer.... In principle, I'm fine with it as long as its non sexual, but in practice I wouldn't attend a meeting of such in case I/we were to get tarred with a child abuse claims.
Likewise, what about dealing with the almost 'legal' teenagers. We've all pasted through that stage of life! Now there's another can o'worms!

Although I was not raised as a nudist, I have been one since I moved out of my very conservative family. I have been to many social nudist gatherings where children are present and have met many adults who were raised as children. They all seem to be well adjusted to me. I kind of worry about a society that seems to be perfectly fine with children playing violent video games or watching movies showing human bodies getting blown apart, but freak out about how much their child will be forever traumatized if he walks in while mommy and daddy are making whoopee.

From the time I was 12yo I started going nude as much as I possible could. My parents didn't know, but when I was in my room, I was naked. I slept naked. When I got to college and had roommates, I shocked them a few times by walking around naked, but eventually they got used to it and didn't say much about it since most of the time I covered myself with a blanket.

When I got married, I was nude all the time unless I was going out. Then my daughter came along. I continued lounging around nude until she got old enough to talk and my wife and I decided that it was best for me not to be nude around her anymore as she might say something that would make people believe there was something inappropriate going on. THERE WASN'T!

Now, I'm the only man in the house, and my wife and daughter will often walk around naked. Not laying around watching TV or anything, but walking from the bathroom to the bedroom after a shower or walking nude from the laundry room after putting their clothes in the washer. I do the same thing. I'll shower and walk back to my room naked. It's not a big deal and no one in the family makes it a big deal. Now that my daughter is a teenager, she's become a little more modest and typically covers her boobs with a towel draped over her shoulder if she's walking around the house.

Now...I do agree that nudity with sexual content is not appropriate around kids. And sitting around naked may confuse a child. My daughter, like me, loves to be naked and we remind her to do it in private. I still lounge around naked, but I do it in my room with the door shut.

I'm absolutely for it. I'm a nudist in Arizona, there are resorts here and I go to some in southern California during the warm weather months. Summer family orientated, some are swinger orientated, some cater to bisexual, some gay. There are different places for almost anything you're looking for. And being naked out in the sun in a group of people I think is fantastic. You learn just how much clothes actually say about a person, and how much people sometimes hide behind them. The worst thing you get out of it is a great tan.

But in this day and age if you are investigated even if you're cleared of any wrong doing, it stays on your record that you were investigated for so many years. You mite get away with it with your family but if the neighbors kid or one of your kids friends see you, you could be in serious trouble. I worked law enforcement & crimes against children. My family were not nudist but there was not a lot of modesty either. Large family by today's standards living in a small house with only one bathroom and everyone shared a room with someone so dressing in front of others was common. So at some point all our family was naked in front of others at some point. In Texes summers without a/c you wore as little as possible and it wasn't a big deal. As my older brothers and sisters left home I was the last one left home with mom and saw her naked a lot it was just life.

My best friend's family in the 60's had 8 children (3 girls) in a 2 bedroom house. Their mom would breast feed fed in front of me and the entire family. No one was adversely effected by the open sexuallity and all were very well sexually educated.

I say yes to family nudity. I was raised up in a house of very well educated parents (1 being in education) that weren't exactly what you would call nudists. But it was normal for all of us to be naked mainly in the evenings before bed, private pools with some friends of theirs and their kids, and many other private places. There was never any sexual aspect openly about it. Having children of my own, (2 boys 1 girl. All adults now) I was not openly nude around them, but the wife and I never made a big deal about the kids seeing us or each other nude. Allowing that openness around family allows for less hang ups about our own bodies, my daughter has said and is thankful for how see was raised.

All for it. As pointed out earlier society is still against it. It's hard for kids to differentiate at the young ages thus fear of the law. However as young people grow into the lifestyle it becomes normal. Our family has the rule that all discussions or arguments are to be done nude. Gives the feeling of nothing to hide. Our nudist ranch is family friendly so no outward sex but seeing kids walk around is surprising. Nudity is not about the act of sex.
