WiganDaveFirstly (to all), I agree that this is predominately a sex site - but this section is called 'General Discussions' - so, if you don't want to read anything other than sex, simply skip items of Political/National topic & look for sexier ones.
Secondly, thank you for your thoughts ridernmich. I value them, but mine are different :-
1. The UK declared War on Hitler's Nazi regime on 1st Sept 1939, after witnessing the Nazis killing of Jews (& others) in the eastern side of Europe (Poland esp). The UK sent an Expeditionary Force over the Channel to confront the Germans (I now say 'Germans' because most of the conscripted soldiers weren't Nazis, simply patriotic). At that time the UK was expecting a war of attrition (ie in trenches on the opposite side of barbed wire). The German Forces (the Wehrmacht) had significantly moved on in the 20yrs since the end of WW1 & employed tactics that became known as 'Blitzkrieg' ie 'Lightning War'. They used tanks to travel at speed across France to the Channel, crushing anything in their way.
The BEF were overwhelmed & retreated to Dunkirk where a flotilla of craft (incl some very small boats) rescued them on 26 May 1940. This is where UK grit shone through. Hitler wanted to invade the UK but the Wehrmacht knew they could not succeed without air superiority - hence 'The

tle of Britain' during the Summer & Autumn of 1940, when UK fighter pilots (some very young) took to the skies in their Hurricanes & Spitfires to challenge the German planes. Despite a tragic loss of life (on both sides) the UK prevailed & Hitler had to rethink. These events took place in Sept 1939 & May 1940 when the US people were comfortable in their beds at night. You say that "We were hard at work making war materials for all of Europe so you could take care of your self's. I'm sure you all remember the lend lease program." I apologise but I don't remember that program. To my mind, we were alone. It was only the replacement of UK Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain in May 1940 by 'The British Bulldog', Winston Churchill that saved the UK. Even though he was a Tory (ie Conservative) and I am a Socialist (ie Labour), I admire him greatly.
2. You say "after helping out in WW 1" etc . Yes the US did help out - but, again, not immediately. The UK declared war on Germany on 26th July 1914. On 6th July 1917, the US joined us. We thanked them then & we still do (genuinely) - but we had to endure battles such as The Somme (Spring 1916) when 250K soldiers (some on each side) lost their lives. Verdun was equally as bad.
When the Orange idiot with the Blond Quiff speaks about ending the War in Ukraine (& in Gaza) I reach for a Sick Bag. Let's all hope that we will wake up tomorrow & the day after that.
Sorry for the political rant - I'm generally regarded as a nice bloke (but I have a small bee in my bonnet about 20th Century Politics)
