For the past couple of months I have been taking over the counter female hormone pills, specifically Solaray Female Hormone blend sp-c. They have the advantage of being cheap and I have noticed some gradual changes in my body, though not completely sure how much is placebo and how much is real. My nipples are usually pert and erect now and there is some breast growth. My body hair seems smoother and to be growing slower. My skin feels softer and my body appears a little more rounded and female. My body was already fairly effeminate, which helps. Just curious if any other males here have experimented with over the counter female hormones and what your experience has been like.

Red clover contains estrogen so it IS hormone replacement. So is soy protein as in tofu. So the risks are similar to prescription estrogen, but less, because the OTC preps aren't as strong. Estrogen does not actually increase libido, anyway, although it does keep the vagina healthy and moist. Dryness from menopause can cause uncomfortable sex and loss of desire because of pain. Hormones with male hormone activity like progesterone in birth control pills, and the male hormone testosterone can increase female libido but may have side effects.
A new drug, Vyleesi, has been approved by the FDA and is now available from specialty pharmacies. It is effective, but so far is not approved for postmenopausal women or men. But I would anticipate it will gain approval in the future.
There are also what are called serotonin agonists--some antidepressants like Seroquel and migraine drugs like Imitrex which may have libido increasing side, effects, but are not recommended unless treating the indicated conditions.
Reduced libido treatments will be the next breakthrough in quality of life pharmacology and will equal or exceed the success of the ED meds. And won't that be wonderful!

You were not born female therefore you are not female and you never will be. Even if you get surgery you are still a male (with missing parts). There is no pill that's going to change who you are.

There is substantial risk in taking these kind of pills, some of which have been mentioned by XYGirl but she did not mention them all. Drug manufacturers don't care about anything but the money they make from sales.

Be careful! I highly suggest you reconsider and stop taking them. Pills designed for the opposite gender are not safe for anyone to take. Your health should be most important to you.

I'm giggling at some of the confusion. As male to female trangender I just assume it's common knowledge how the change happens. I won't bother with the legal stuff, as it's different from state to state, but in general you must live full time for a specified period before the shrink signs you off. Then you're cleared for the sex reasignment surgery if you so wish. Many of us are happy with hormone replacement therapy alone, so we can keep our little friend.

I've been on hormone replacement for about a year now, and you can see some of the results in my profile pic if you're curious. Not passable yet, but getting there, getting there. =)
